About three years ago, Metal Gear Solid 5 came out with a rather disappointing ending. Certain plots in the story have never been officially resolved in Phantom Pain, and it later turned out that it was because the game was missing the entire third chapter that was not finished in the game production. It was also revealed that the game also had a third, secret finish, but it was nearly impossible to accomplish.

Specifically, the conditions for achieving that ending were unclear, but it was believed that it was necessary to deactivate all nuclear weapons through the FOB component of the game. That was the opposite of FOB’s goal – that players were armed with as many nuclear weapons as they could use against other players. In theory, all players should have given up nuclear weapons in order to get the secrets of Metal Gear Solid 5 together.

That did not happen for two years after the game’s release, so in Konami they apparently lost all hope that it would ever happen. So without any announcement and without any reason they unlocked the secret ending – at least in the PC version of the game. It is possible that Konami is preparing for a near closing of the FOB component support, perhaps only on the PC. Given that they will soon release Metal Gear Survive, it would not be surprising that with this move they are trying to take the Phantom Pain players to the new game.
