Since we are in a year ending with an odd number this means that this summer will not be a sign of great sports events that we are watching over TV. I would dare say that this is the biggest television event this summer of the seventh season of the Game of Thrones series, which starts on the 16th of July at the HBO program.
The fans had to wait three months longer than in the new season, so the uncertainty increased further. In addition to the impatient expectation, this is going to be the end of the season, so we will finally see what our crazy adventure with zombies and dragons leads us before it is printed in a literary template called “Song of Ice and Fire.”
If you need to refresh your memory before the seventh season, Westeros is just not so easy to go. The series already has sixty episodes, so you have to recapture almost 60 hours of your time for re-viewing. Therefore, in theory, it would be more convenient to prepare for a new season with a virtual visit to the Westeros world through the Game of Thrones video game.
Unfortunately, in practice, this is not a happy activity. You see, there is still a miracle that there is not a great Game of Thrones yet. The creators of Skyrim and Fallout were close to working on such a project, but they decided in the end for their own game over which they had a lot of ownership. The Game of Thrones license ended at the end with three different developers who launched a total of four games according to this template. We’ll go through them briefly and comment on whether it’s worth playing them.
GAME OF THRONES – A TELLTALE GAME SERIES (2015)
Telltale’s six-episode adventure is the best way to experience a story based on GoT. Indeed, that story is original and is so much the case that nobody is at all troubled by the canon. You will not in any way deepen or expand your knowledge of the world of George R. R. Martin, but if you are looking for a shocking turnaround for which GoT is characteristic, then you will need to serve a lot of such “stitches”.
If you’ve played any of Telltale’s production games then you know what the problem is – interactivity is here at YouTube playlist management level. In other words, with this adventure you will see more than play. Provided you are as cool as the White Walkers are cool when they go to battle, you are free to indulge. If you own the PS4 console as part of the subscription to the Plus service game you get free at any time.
GAME OF THRONES (2012)
If you opt for GoT in the form of an action RPG produced by the Cyanide developer, it may not be bad to prepare a few milligrams of cyanide for each case. Telltale’s work at least did not let you play it, but here for a story you have to play the game with all the controls on the button and feel like Bran Stark while managing Hodor.
The original story of this game is actually very solid, but the game itself is quite bad. The presentation was under-estimated even five years ago, and the gameplay is buggy, repetitive and generally tedious. There is no solid evidence that anyone has ever grasped this game, but there are no other RPG titles under the GoT license.
A GAME OF THRONES: GENESIS (2011)
Do you still have the cyanide you mention? Let’s find it for GoT: Genesis, the first strategy game in the series. This game is also coined with Cyanide, but unlike the upper half product, Genesis is even less playable. Do you know the kind of game that is so tricky that it’s not worth entering into what’s wrong with it? Well, that’s the case for you. If you care about GoT’s strategic element, try alternative solutions, about which we will solve something more
GAME OF THRONES: ASCENT (2013)
The second most popular TV series in the world has a solid mobile game, so what can not GoT be? It would be good if it were not as complicated as GoT: Ascent. In essence, Ascent is not as bad as he has to offer. The game was live while casual titles were still playing on Facebook. Ten million players were playing at the same time, but lately nobody cares about it anymore.
New content is still coming, but common server issues are not worth the effort. Ascent will never get you into the world of GoT as well as books and series.
BUT THEREFORE IN THE NAME OF GOD, OLD AND NEW, ALL THERE IS LESS?
The man does not have a decent Game of Thrones game. The guy makes GoT in other decent games. Fortunately, the PC audience, predominantly those who like strategic games, the Game of Thrones can be experienced in interesting ways through several modification games for several games. If the Iron Throne wanted to conquer the political spells like Littlefinger then the GoT modification of Crusader King 2 transforms the medieval Europe into Westeros.
If your Crusader Kings are too hardcore, there is a similar fashion for Civilization V. Okay, there are not many magic and mysteries in it, but you can play with a variety of different characters from the series, as you are alive, and change the course of action to your will. On the other hand, if you want to play Tywin Lannister, then there is Seven Kingdoms for you that fights with Total War: Attil. The mode is very up-to-date so you can get scenarios for the battles that took place in the series last season. If you are only looking for a five-king war scenario then you could be a handsome fashion of the same name for the cult Age of Empires 2.
Finally, it raises the question of the future of the GoT game and whether the situation will ever get better than it is currently. For now it’s hard to say, but we know at least that Telltale will kick off his second season of adventure. The big MMORPG project called Seven Kingdoms has probably fallen into oblivion and we can cross it so that all the hopes lie in one fashion for the legendary Skyrim.
The Game of Thrones Adaptation Mode for Skyrim has been developing for some time and could be a nice distraction. Of course, we’d rather want to get an official GoT RPG game, but that would be a miracle from the current point of view.
