To immediately solve the concern – no, this year’s edition of Football Manager does not bring any revolutionary innovation that fundamentally changed the game in comparison to the previous version. For the fans, this is a well-known situation, but not a situation of despair because FM17 does have some interesting upgrades.

Two new features can be categorized as large. First, it is technical, not too connected with the in-game items, adding 64-bit versions of the game, which will allow faster startup and more fluid game for those who have more than 3 gb memory (which is now below the minimum requirements of numerous games ).

The main new feature in the game is the so-called Social Feed. This plugin, which is completely inspired by Twitter, you can follow the reactions of fans, journalists and virtual players themselves in terms of events within your club as an ideal indicator of how much you are “loved” in their environment. That all does not remain only on the club you are managing, you can follow the social feed and events in other clubs, publications related to toys, country or continent that you “follow”.

This is not really too much novelty since we had all that in the FM16 where instead of Follow, we had Subscribe and the news weren’t depicted separately but within the Inbox window which frequently caused real mess within the Inbox. Thus singled in another window, this thing seems to be quite interesting, especially if you have a club and you would like to know everything that happens in it or you have some particularly precious player who is not in your team, and you do not want to miss any important news related to it.

In developing coaching profiles we found a new possibility of modeling the face based on your pictures from real life. Thus, at least the idea of manufacturers, on the sidelines during the game, if you have included a 3D view, stood the real you.

The game itself also brings a few changes. Players now have a better and faster decision-making which can particularly be seen in the defense. That’s at least Reportedly Sports Interactive, but after their subjective perception I just have not noticed. However, it is noticeable over 1500 new animations in 3D watching the game, part of which is added and related to events before the game – uprise of players on the field, heating and so on. Of course, there is a new animation using judicial spray in penalties.

Much of the decisions you make during the conduct of the club takes place in the Inbox. New Football Manager therefore brings Inbox richer with information so you no longer have to click around to get to important information that are necessary for making important decision but all have in one place. For example, when choosing a captain (and his deputy) to date in the inbox you had the possibility to choose the name, and nothing more. Of course, for captain, you want players who have the qualities for this role, but till now, we had to check the profile of players or in some other places. In the FM17 it is no longer necessary because all the attributes that characterize a good captain you have for each player listed in the inbox. It is similar to many other managerial tasks.

Other clubs show more intelligence in the transfers for example, they aren’t collecting attackers while their defense is thin. Also, clubs can now have the option to insert a clause in the sale that the player cannot go until his team finds a replacement. But this is not the only new clause. Now we have the possibility of offering a certain amount of money just when you win a trophy.

Among other changes, other thing that is worth mentioning is the Fantasy Draft, and you can now play against the computer, not just online. Licences are complemented by the Polish Extra-class and have introduced representation of Kosovo and Gibraltar. Of course, these are some of the things visible “on the surface”, which does not mean that “under the hood” you will not find something that makes FM17 better than the former. However, we repeat it for many years – since the asking price of the game, with minimal shifts in the FAQ by clicking it is always questionable whether it is worth to make a “transfer” or extend the existing contract. And on this very personal question, only your wallet can answer.
