Batman The Telltale Series 77

Telltale Games studios have one constant: they always deliver what is expected of them, but never more than that, not if their life depended on it. If you have played some of their numerous series you know they have stories that pull you in and keep you interested ; but I also know that for this you have to accept a compromise that everything in these games is generally below average. Not surprisingly, Batman: The Telltale series is another case, although we must admit that this is the game that Telltale had put effort to prepare the most novelties, ever since the iconic The Walking Dead.

There is for example completely useless option Crowd Play which allows viewers to choose important decisions, and integration accompanied by video in which developers describe their vision of the game. But the most important novelty is the new starter, first change after more than four years. Its benefits are visible to the DOF effects that make the game closer to an animated film than a moving comic book. It is also noticeable the use of larger amounts of the characters in the scenes, but it’s all still pathetic, honestly, because even games lower production (type 1979 Revolution Black Friday) have more alive environment from Telltales.

Batman is in spite of the new engine, still technically very limited, primarily because the engine has to stretch for old consoles and mobile platforms in which lies the root of many problems in this game. The consequences are that the scenes are cut into pieces, and with their changes is seen a lot of bugs. This pause lasts less than a second, but kills intention of game to achieve cinematic atmosphere. And it is clear that the game is looking like a movie because it is not running in a standard 16: 9 aspect ratio, so on the 1080p resolution there is a “cut off” part of the screen with black bars top and bottom

When it comes to aesthetic procedures, I like the change of the visual style compared to TWD that lines are not as fat as they used to be on characters and objects . With that style is somehow easier to ignore the wooden faces of the characters, although I do not want to accept them. I will repeat it for the numerous times, but the game that relies so heavily on the characters and story just is inferior in every way if they can’t capture the characters on some plausible level. Video game has to have something to sell the figure of Batman. It is clear that the PNC adventure can’t make it possible with gameplay of the Batman character in the action; However, that being the case – why does act remain only at the level of the voice?

Overall, Batman: The Telltale series is after the first episode in a very unstable injury. In addition to the famous compromises that you have to do to enjoy the game (understand that your decisions are irrelevant, reconcile with wooden faces), there is a new set of constraints, primarily because this is also a game for Andorid / iOS platform – technically limited, and the QTE sequences shows that the hollow. On the other hand, saves it a different plot of known stories and dynamic presentation of the same.
