I think that many gamers, just like us here on gameguin.com, had a good part of growing up marked with a 3D platformer, so I was sad to see how the genre started to slowly decay. Except only recently issued the reboot of Ratchet & Clank, such platformer remains mostly forgotten part of history while the remaining few of his adolescent transformation ignores the basic charm of collecting random things in favor of stretched and illogical story subtracting the constant control of all sorts of cute animals.

Well, little robot BUD from Ubisoft game Grow Up is not an animal, but it could resemble your old wind-up toy. If you may have grown up in this last year since we played predecessor of this title, Grow Home, it is proof that boyish tendencies carefree days, although only in one afternoon – still do not have to leave. Do not let the name confuse you – Grow Up is not yet grown up, but I’d like to think that in his innocent tone is some hidden message. But aside of that, perhaps a little thoughtless name sided significance, Grow Up is just a great platformer.

But there is really not much to say that has not already been said before, because Grow up really is totally the same game as its predecessor. While the Grow Home is perhaps more like a small technical presentation of the charming idea, a team from Ubisoft, Reflections study took the formula that has worked and spread it a bit. Instead of a series of vertically floating islands, here we are now offering the entire planet … Full vertical floating islands. Some predetermined sequence of travel is now a thing of the past as we are here on the choice left to do the free research in the hot deserts and snow-capped mountains.

The wide horizon of the planet even more adds an impressive sense of scale, especially when jumping out of the clouds. Looking for parts from the mother ship, you will encounter scattered crystals everywhere, which if enough gathered, they ease the job. With a little different and better change, instead of hard distraction plants in teleporter, this way you can easily scan them with touching. Variety of plants like crazy mushrooms and water lilies that you can plant wherever you want and than your newly grown flora will serve you as a springboard.

While you do not have much choice, the system initially provides a dose of cunning and orientation in space, but becomes of negligible importance later when you get a parachute, wings and more powerful jetpack. The result is ultimately satisfying experience because you are very well rewarded for all the effort.

PS4 version that we have had opportunity to play, mostly gave us a headache with a constant autosave system that would make framerate wandering. Grow Up is good and just enjoy it when everything doesn’t go your way. Another return to the simple days when you didn’t carry the whole world on your shoulders could really please you, I know it pleased me.
