Portal Eurogamer, being in touch with many different sources, has confirmed the earlier rumors that Microsoft will revive the Fable series through a large open-world game. The previous rumors that the new PlayGround Games line, the team behind the Forza Horizon series, would make the game also turned out to be true. However, nothing is yet official until Microsoft publicly discloses it, but note that this information is a done deal.
According to the Eurogamer reports, the next Fable game will be an action RPG, primarily a singleplayer model, but multiplayer is not excluded. About two hundred people will work on the game, which means it will be a high-budget project.
Given that the former Lionhead employees revealed that they had plans for such a game while they were working on Fable Legends, the question remains why Microsoft said “no” to that idea and closed that team to approve the same project two years later for a completely new team .
In Eurogamer, they believe this is the result of the success achieved by last year’s exclusive PS4 Horizon Zero Dawn. This game was sold in over three million copies although it is a story-focused singleplayer; which led to the idea that there is still hope for the good old Fable.
