If there’s anything I remember from younger days, it is that Dado Pršo in the PES was called Pkro and played frantically “Worms” and “Grand theft auto.” Since then Pkro retired and “GTA” has become one of the best-selling games ever, and Worms are still Worms. I will not say that my former buddies are some kind of critics, but it is interesting that then Worms were almost constantly a major game in the street, and the first and second GTA were clean games that you play when you don’t have team for Worms.

In fact it is not at all that interesting, but it is interesting that the GTA through half a dozen sequels had grown into a worldwide phenomenon, the game that you do not give to your grandmother to play, and your parents like to talk about it when they want to turn cool and step in with the times. Worms, on the other hand, surprisingly in the last twenty years, had published one to two sequels. Perhaps there’s nothing to be said about the quality control of the amount, but I think the Worms are tormented by something much more, something that will be quickly forgotten with Worms W.M.D., although it is perhaps the best game in the series.

Not that Team17 hasn’t tried to improve the series; Games have alternately jumped from three to two dimensions, receiving and losing mechanics such as building forts or advanced physics and changed styles and starters. The idea has stayed the same – you have a couple of teams up to eight worms with bazookas and who stays alive last, wins.

W.M.D. is one of two-dimensional games in the series and I’m not avoiding something to say about it something that you do not know already. You have a satisfactory number of missions that become boring the first time when it had be repeated, online and local multiplayer is why, honestly, you buy this game. Of course you can create your teams and edit your worms with a series of semi-funny hats and voices, but there is nothing in it that will open your eyes and change your life. A good part of the arsenal is the same that we used to bomb in earlier games, but the most interesting weapons are locked as a pre-order bonus that Team17 likes to remind us about the promotional materials.

Vehicles and buildings are completely new to the series, which freshens things a little, like when your mother burns Prince’s album which is initially at least different from the previous, but after the second listening you’d rather listen to something else.

I am sure that loyal fans will enjoy the new worms, but it’s unlikely that the new improved version of 20 year old game will intrigue newer generations . You get a new hand paint and FSO vanilla tree on the rearview mirror of old-timer. I know that the series always had its niche, but as it rejects changes like a world religion, it might not be a bad idea that it was finally placed in a marble niche or at least a decent retirement as a legendary Pkro.
