You know those moments when in a cheap horror movie character has a great idea but finishes under the chainsaw? And have you ever wanted to be one of those fools? Of course not, but did you want to be the deranged killer with a bag on his head and a machete in his hand? Well okay, maybe not that ,but anyways in such films often cheer for a murderer because stupid teenagers are simply irritating.

Dead by Daylight is just that – asymmetric warrant cat and mouse where four players are trying to escape the fifth player that intends to slaught them. Survival horror genre has always been focused on the single player experience as it is widely understood that things are not so bad when you have fear with whom to share. Is Dead by Daylight managed to prove otherwise? In short – yes, but he was able to do that and much more.

Particularly interesting designs perspective are these two different roles, as long as the killer’s in the first person focused on the prey, the rest of escapes in the third person and thus have a larger field of view. The idea is in place and there is no doubt that the gameplay can be strained, especially when you know that behind the bloody murderers does not cover the lifeless computer. Unfortunately, what we are currently offering can only serve as a proof of concept. There’s certainly a lot of potential, one that has yet to materialize. Overall, you have four victims without some clear differences, three different killers who still mostly do the same thing, several folders that are all similar bizarre and only one type of “details” or the fashion in which he escapes or hunting.

The main attempt that always leaves unpredictable things lies in generating random level. However, it currently does not really hold water because each location consists of scattered buildings, small wall, walls and cabinets that do not belong in the woods or open fields. No matter if it is every time “different”, in the end somehow everything looks the same, almost uniformly. Here and there are known occur in retirement homes and one map highlights the cornfield, but do not expect that some haunted palaces and villas of interesting architecture and hidden passages.

Just one playful mode in which victims are able to win by finding and repairing generators that would enable escape while the killer is trying to shove them on a hook, it simply does not mitigate the sense of repetition. I’m missing some real alternative ways of winning this because all soon becomes predictable and somehow advance programmed.
