I remember well my first encounter with the Call of Duty franchise. In the demo version of the original game we played the Ste. Mere Eglise mission which it took just ten seconds to break the conventions of the genre FPS. I was pleasantly shocked by the realistic depiction of war or rather the illusion of a team match. In Call of Duty, I was not extraordinary hero who sets free France of Nazi occupation. I fought in the group, with the help of comrades, and that was something new next series such as Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor back in 2003.

For the next thirteen years, Call of Duty franchise has evolved principle of throwing mud at the wall. Something on the wall caught and became part of every subsequent game – for example, health regeneration and QTE sequences. But last few years CoD doesn’t manage to keep fresh mud on the wall – novelties such as strategic elements or branching stories appear in one game, and then we never see them again. Next game again has the task to present itself as something new, but no matter how hard Call of Duty tries from year to year, it round in circles because of those things that has fascinated players thirteen years ago.

The thesis is that the Infinite Warfare is significantly different from all other Call of Duty games partially standing. Warfare on other planets in our galaxy has nothing to do with previous militaristic fantasies, and technology that we use in the game overtakes even futuristic predictions of Advanced Warfare and Black OPS. Nevertheless, Infinite Warfare is nevertheless very familiar and predictable experience. The game is still designed to hold you by the hand with maximum and leads you through the action as some kind of a dog on a chain.

Surely you’ve seen specific situation a hundred times. Almost every mission in COD is solved with a few comrades, but the action takes place around them. You are in the center of attention, but not a driver of the action. When comes a situation in which you can be away from the action, on the screen pops a message – come back! You cannot open the door yourselves while other team members do not get to them, all is sequenced to pain. The irony is, however, that in the Infinite Warfare you play as Captain Nick Reyes, but it turns out that the captain receives more orders from their fellow soldiers than he inflicts.

I was really hoping that Activision will show everyone who humiliated Infinite Warfare since it was announced that the Space Call of Duty can be innovative, fun and memorable, but in the end I think that all this can only be in the eyes of players that haven’t followed or played Call of Duty since Modern Warfare. If you are such a small group of gamers, check Infinite Warfare – you get three quite competent and fun mods for your money, but perhaps it’s not a bad option to buy last year’s Black Ops 3 – it will be cheaper, but offers very similar, futuristic experience of equal quality .
