Point and click adventures are not what they used to be. Chances are that some of our readers today do not know it, but in the early nineties this genre was one of the most popular in the world of video games. Lucas Arts and Sierra Games through these ten years have ruled the gaming scene similar to today ruled by Activision and Electronic Arts, except that people actually like them.
As the years pass by, technically impressive genres have overcome adventures with a transition into the new millennium left to sink into oblivion. Of course, manufacturers faithful to this ancient genre are still occasionally published some title, but it seems that the point ‘n’ click adventure recently started getting back to relevancy. Each high-quality point and click game therefore is a small victory for the granddaddy of modern adventure, and one such copy is the Bear With Me, the new title of Croatian developmental studies Exordium Games.
The first thing you’ll notice when you start Bear With Me is an absolute hit noir atmosphere that is the central motive of the action. Almost every motive of the game is ‘built’ this or any other noir classics, but you will also encounter with a drunken detective who reluctantly helps a damsel in distress, black / white visuals and red accents, the rain that kept falling, mysterious events that seem to be completely unrelated to the first …
Bear With Me puts under your control the dynamic duo that is made by Amber and Ted. E. Bear, whose backstory will be addressed through the first half of the episodes of the game. Amber, appears to be in primary school vivid imagination that explores where her brother disappeared, a Bear is a former private investigator who helps her while. It is interesting that a good part of the action takes place in the head of Amber herself, although it is nowhere explicitly stated, and this vagueness works in favor of mystery games.
If you are wondering whether this approach too a given theme is good, the answer is – yes. Although Bear With Me repeats all enthroned ideas that fans have come to expect noir, manufacturers have managed to turn it upside down in the best possible way. As I mentioned, Amber was in primary school, and Ted. E. Bear is a teddy bear, but no other characters are not much better.
There will appear all sorts of stuffed animals and the occasional robot, and although the atmosphere is quite serious, the game has plenty of interesting jokes and remarks that will keep you interested. So I noticed during of playing all kinds of references to all sorts of things, and even an occasional punching fourth wall, Bear With Me was never so difficult as much as it seems to be.
Bear With Me has surpassed my expectations. With the exception of average animation and voice synchronization, or acting, it is a very well-rounded whole, which is full of interesting puns and fun puzzles. There will also be a sequence that does not expect and which remains sketchy without additional context, and some enter into something that could be an alternative reality for Amber.
